Planning your trip to Greece, be sure to visit the Archaeological Museum of Pella - the ancient capital of the Macedonian kingdom, first mentioned by Herodotus. Here was born the \\\\\\\"greatest Hellene of all times\\\\\\\" - Alexander the Great. In 168 BC, the Romans, subdued the city, destroyed it almost to the ground. In the 60 s of the 20 th century a building to store the finds was built about the archaeological site. Since 1973, it began to function as an archaeological museum. However, the old museum did not meet modern standards of museums, and in summer 2009 at Pella was opened a new museum. 6000 sq.m. of its exhibition area aloud to represent a significant part of the collection, which is constantly replenished by finds from ongoing excavation of the ancient city. The museum exhibition is divided into five thematic sections. The oldest exhibits are dated from the third millennium BC. The museum exhibition includes artifacts from the palace of the Macedonian kings and rich local burial, wonderful restored frescoes and mosaics. The reconstruction of ancient pottery workshop is of a great interest. In the modern museum there is space for recreation, a cafe and a souvenir shop.
