Belfast Product Update - October 2012
Belfast\'s buoyant cruise season
Belfast’s buoyant cruise business is on course to deliver a fresh boost for the local economy after a record-breaking summer season.
In 2012, a total of 45 cruise ship arrivals brought close to 75,000 passengers and crew to the city and its world-famous Titanic port as part of the ‘Cruise Belfast’ marketing partnership between Belfast Visitor & Convention Bureau (BVCB) and Belfast Harbour.
Some of the last giant ships to arrive in Belfast were the 260-metre-long 3,100-passenger Emerald Princess and MS AMADEA, with 900 passengers and crew. However, the city also welcomed CMV Ocean Countess on 26 September, due to unprecented weather conditions.
Since the first cruise ship docked in 1996, a total of more than half a million passengers and crew have sailed into Belfast Harbour to explore a city famous for its rich maritime heritage, supporting a tourism industry worth an annual £400 million to the local economy.
500,000th visitor for Titanic Belfast
Titanic Belfast has welcomed its 500,000th visitor, just six months after opening on March 31st.
Visitor number targets were exceeded when Canadian citizen Lynda Price, who was born in east Belfast and is the great-granddaughter of a shipyard worker, entered the world`s largest Titanic visitor experience.
The visitor attraction has exceeded the original annual forecast for visitor numbers, which was set at 425,000. Of those who experienced Titanic Belfast in the past six months, 65% were out-of-state (non-Northern Ireland residents). Titanic Belfast has welcomed tourists from 111 countries, from Argentina, Nepal, Qatar and Belize, amongst others, generating significant tourism revenue for the local economy for not only Belfast, but for Northern Ireland as a whole.
European Cities Marketing promotes Belfast alongside Nice and Geneva
Proving its position as a European city destination, Belfast is promoted alongside Nice and Geneva in the latest European Cities Marketing e-newsletter. Belfast\'s \"myriad of reasons\" to visit are highlighted alongside promotion of the city\'s Visitor Pass.

The sculptured seating is located at one of the most scenic areas of Cave Hill Country Park - just below the iconic caves - where many hill users stop to enjoy stunning views of Belfast Lough, the Antrim Plateau, Belfast City, the Ards Peninsula and Strangford Lough. The positioning and design of the pieces are inspired by stone circles from the area`s pre-history, and the semi-circle of the nearby `Devil`s Punchbowl`.
