1912-2012 A hundred years of Trieste’s Synagogue and Carlo Morpurgo, the tragedy of a just man
The hundred years of the monumental Synagogue of Trieste, the city that has always been a symbol of multiculturalism, and Carlo Morpurgo, the secretary of the Jewish community in the Fascist period, are celebrated in a charming photo exhibition. An overview of period images alternated with contemporary shots, will guide you through the hard century of life of the large Temple and, for the first time, to the secret room that marked the salvation of the precious memories of Trieste’s Hebraism and the beginning of the tragedy of a just man.

Metamorphosis: Moroso collections between design and visual arts
“Metamorphosis: Moroso collections between design and visual arts” dedicated to one of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s leading furniture and design companies. It is the first temporary exhibition hosted by Udine’s museum of modern and contemporary art in its new premises: Casa Cavazzini, situated in the heart of the centre of the city of Tiepolo inside a historic sixteenth-century building. Among the permanent works, international excellences like De Chirico, Savinio, Willem De Kooning, Carl Andre and Dino, Mirko and Afro Basaldella. This event is included in the Bianco&Nero festival.

9th Tour of the Chrismas Cribs
A not-to-be-missed tour for all those who want to discover Friuli Venezia Giulia’s rich tradition of Christmas Crib art. Along a tour that reaches over a hundred locations in the region, among historic sites, churches, villages and squares, thousands of Nativity Scenes will be on display to represent the Holy Family, each one according to its customs and its original “feeling”. The circuit comprises a wide range of Nativity Scenes, from the traditional ones to more unusual ones, from monumental to live, underwater and Neapolitan Nativity Scenes.

Ian Anderson
“Thick as a brick 1 & 2”
The Palasport of Chiarbola in Trieste, a city that always hosts internationally renowned musicians, will stage the performance by the famous Scottish singer-songwriter Ian Anderson with his album “Thick as a brick 1 & 2”. This work is not predictable at all, it goes through the fine sounds of the Seventies but from a contemporary point of view thanks to Ian Anderson’s creative skills and to his band. Promoted as a masterpiece by international critics, it is an event that provides great emotions and involves the generations of progressive rock of the last forty years.

9th Gospel live festival
This year the Gospel Live Festival is in its ninth year. The charm and the sounds of this music will enliven Pordenone, Roveredo in Piano and Cordenons with some concerts by international gospel choirs and bands. This travelling festival goes through the evolution of this music, from its origin as folk religious singing of American black people to the father of music genres like soul, blues and jazz. A music with enthralling and charming choreographies that transmits joy, energy and vitality.

Trieste Science+Fiction
Like every year Trieste will host the international science fiction festival. This international and multidisciplinary festival dedicated to the exploration of the worlds of fantasy, of experimental languages and of the new technologies for cinema, television, visual arts and the show business industry, presents not-to-be-missed cult movies, eagerly awaited premieres, great names of cinema and young talents, retrospectives, classics and rarities. Two prizes are awarded every year: Urania d’Argento, the career award realized in collaboration with the Mondadori publishing company and given to a personality of fantasy, and the Asteroide prize, created every year by a different artist, to be awarded to the best film of the competition.

Waiting for Christmas …
Moggio Udinese, an ancient village of monks situated in the Canale Valley and renowned for the wonderful shop windows that every year are embellished by the Christmas Crib art masters, waits for Christmas with the traditional tasting of its typical dish, the “brovadar” (turnip scalded according to a particular procedure and used chopped in vegetable soups, pan-fried with meat or in salads). The prize of the fifteenth Christmas Cribs festival of Moggio will be awarded during the event. All this will be surrounded by the warm and charming atmosphere of the Christmas markets!

Christmas in the wine cellar
An event dedicated to Christmas presents and organized directly at the wine cellars of the Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia scattered all over the region. The wine cellars welcome tourists and enthusiasts and organize special tasting sessions proposing the excellent wines of the region, also as an ideal Christmas gift. There will also be many initiatives organized directly by the wine cellars, including art exhibitions, music, and food and wine matching.

Underwater Christmas
On the night of Christmas Eve scuba divers will make the statues of Nativity emerge from the green-blue waters of the wonderful Lake of Cornino, situated in the homonymous nature reserve between Forgaria nel Friuli and Trasaghis, in an extremely charming setting. The nature reserve, which is rich in paths and is an ideal destination for bird watching, has been following the international project for the preservation of griffon vultures for many years.

5th Sauris ciaspola
Sauris, an ancient village in Carnia renowned for its smoked ham and for its delicious Zahre artisan beer, will host the fifth snowshoe race. The race, which is held along a path of about 7 kilometres on the promontory of Mount Rucke and Sauris di Sopra, is both competitive, for those who want to compete with the chronometer, and amateur, for all those who love to venture into the nature of the charming paths of Carnia.
