Design Brings More Tourists to Helsinki
The year 2012 is only half way through but already now one can see that it has had a positive impact on the numbers of tourists (both domestic and foreign) in Helsinki. Already last year the tourism in Helsinki reached record numbers, there were roughly 3,4 million overnightings in the Helsinki hotels. This meant a growth of roughly 6%. This year is predicted to bring even more growth as even the most moderate evaluations estimate that the number of overnightings will grow in the same pace as last year. The harbours are also very busy, there will be roughly 400 000 cruise ship visitors arriving in Helsinki this summer, a record breaking number as well. The cities of Espoo, Vantaa and Lahti have also seen the positive impacts of the design capital year on their estimated numbers of tourists. More exact figures will be available in the end of the summer.
