Bring your imagination and your mystery solving skills on Feb. 4 as Cane Creek State Park in Star City offers “CSI: Nature.” A “crime” has been committed and participants must determine exactly who or what is the culprit. Admission is free. Call the park at 870-formation.

It’s all about birds as Lake Chicot State Park in Lake Village hosts a Winter Wings Weekend on Feb. 4-5. A variety of interpretive programs such as field trips, hikes and lake tours are offered, all geared toward increasing visitors’ awareness of the park’s winter residents. Bring the glitz of Tinseltown to your next party. The Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas in Pine Bluff hosts History, Hollywood & Hair of the Dog on Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. This fun workshop teaches participants how to bring the glamour of old Hollywood to life via cocktails. Attendees will learn the history of the beverages, how each incorporated into Hollywood and its culture, and sample the fizzy creations. The workshop also offers recipes for fabulous appetizers to serve along with the cocktails. Admission is $35 for members and $45 for non-members. Students and teachers experience the everyday life of African-American students when Parkin Archeological State Park in Parkin offers Black History Month School Days on Feb. 16-17 and Feb. 23-24. Visit the restored Northern Ohio School on the park grounds for a variety of hands-on activities ranging from schoolwork to chores to Depression Era jobs. The first week is reserved for elementary school students and the second week is open to middle schools and above. Reservations are required. Learn the basics of making arrowheads, projectile points and various other stone tools during Parkin Archeological State Park’s Flint Knapping Workshop. Scheduled for Feb. 23 in Parkin, admission for the workshop is $25 and includes all tools and materials. Registration is required. Call the park at 870-755-2500 to register or for more information.

Cooking an entire meal outdoors is a wonderful way to make memories with your friends, children or grandchildren. Lake Chicot State Park in Lake Village hosts a Dutch Oven Outdoor Cooking Workshop on Feb. 25. Participants learn the history of the cookware, how to take care of the oven, and how to make a variety of recipes in the cast iron crock. Dutch oven cooking also adds fun and flavor to family camping trips. Admission is $20 and includes lunch. Contact the park at 870-265-5480 for details.
