Lecture Series: New Mexico in the Civil War

February 9, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Author and historian John Taylor of Albuquerque will discuss New Mexico\'s role in the Civil War. Taylor is the author or co-author of three books -- \"New Mexico: Bloody Valverde,\" \"The Battle of Glorieta Pass,\" and \"Dejad a Los Ninos.\" The lecture coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Confederate Campaign across New Mexico in February-March 1862. Admission is a suggested donation of $2.

Be My Cowboy Valentine (Craft workshop for kids)

February 11, 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Children will surprise relatives and friends with gifts they make themselves. They\'ll make Valentines, play games, and learn a little about the history of the heartfelt holiday. Class is open to children ages 5 to 12, and the class is limited to the first 12 children to sign up. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $10 per child ($7 for Friends of the Museum members).

Looking ahead

13th Annual Cowboy Days

March 17-18, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The museum\'s largest annual event pays tribute to New Mexico\'s ranching traditions, and includes many demonstrations, a team roping competition, living history, cowboy music, gunfight re-enactments, stagecoach & horseback rides, children\'s activities, arts and crafts vendors, and lots of great food. Admission is $4 per person.
